2024 Tesla Cybertruck Review

The 2024 Tesla Cybertruck is turning heads and sparking conversations, looking like it zoomed right out of a sci-fi movie with its sharp, stainless-steel body that Tesla claims can even shrug off bullets. It’s not just about looks, though; this electric beast is ready to rumble with the big dogs of the pickup world. You’ve got two all-wheel-drive powerhouses to choose from: the 600-hp Dual Motor setup and the monstrous 834-hp three-motor Beast. And keep your eyes peeled for a single-motor version hitting the streets in 2025.

For now, the lineup’s limited to just the Dual Motor and Beast models, but a more budget-friendly rear-wheel-drive version will debut next year starting at $62,985. If you’re all about the mileage, the Dual Motor model is your best bet. It offers a solid blend of range and speed without breaking the bank.

2024 Tesla Cybertruck: Motor, Power, and Performance

The Tesla Cybertruck is not just a head-turner with its futuristic design; it’s also a powerhouse on wheels, set to roll out with a range of muscle under the hood. At its debut, you’ll see the dual- and tri-motor setups hitting the streets with all-wheel drive, giving you that grip and grunt for just about any adventure. For those who like to keep things a bit more traditional, a rear-wheel-drive, single-motor variant will make its entrance in the 2025 model lineup.

The Dual Motor Cybertruck packs a punch with 600 horsepower, but if you’re aiming for the pinnacle of electric performance, the Cybertruck Beast is where it’s at, boasting a staggering 834 horsepower thanks to its three motors. But Tesla didn’t stop with just raw power.

This electric behemoth comes equipped with an adjustable air suspension system. This nifty feature lets you tweak the ride height on the go, offering up to an impressive 17 inches of ground clearance. Combine this with its 35-degree approach and 28-degree departure angles, and you’ve got an EV that could take the off-road world by storm.

But how does such a beast handle on the pavement? Surprisingly well. We got behind the wheel of a Founders Edition Beast model and were amazed by its nimbleness. Thanks to rear-wheel steering and a variable ratio steer-by-wire system, navigating through city streets and tight spots felt more like cruising in a sedan than piloting a bulky pickup. The Cybertruck is proving to be as versatile as it is visionary, reshaping what we expect from an electric vehicle.

0–60-MPH Times

The 600-hp Dual Motor Cybertruck will reportedly reach 60 mph in just 3.9 ticks and have a top speed of 112 mph. While we haven’t had a chance to test that version, we have tested the 834-hp tri-motor Beast, which hit 60 mph in 2.6 seconds. That makes it the quickest truck—and the fourth-quickest EV—we’ve ever tested. It completed the quarter-mile in 11.0 seconds at 119 mph. Surprisingly, both of those test results are identical to Tesla’s claims.Towing and Payload Capacity The dual- and tri-motor Cybertrucks have a maximum towing capacity of 11,000 pounds; the forthcoming single-motor model is capped at 7500 pounds. Every Cybertruck can also haul 2500 pounds in its six-by-four-foot composite cargo bed. Range, Charging, and Battery Life The Tesla Cybertruck Beast has a 123.0-kWh battery, which we suspect is shared with the Dual Motor model. Tesla claims the latter can add 136 miles in 15 minutes when hooked up to a Supercharger, while the tri-motor model is said to add 128 miles in the same timeframe. In our testing, it took 50 minutes to charge the Beast’s battery from 10 to 50 percent. The electric truck’s driving range varies with the number of motors, but Tesla estimates Dual Motor versions can travel 340 miles per charge and that the Cybertruck Beast will go 301 miles. Those claims rise to over 440 and 470 miles, respectively, with an optional range-extender battery pack that fits inside the truck’s cargo bed. When the RWD Cybertruck arrives, it’ll have an estimated 250 miles of range. We tested a Beast model without the range extender battery on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route and it managed a 250-mile result.
The Tesla Cybertruck is setting the stage for some mind-blowing performance figures, especially when we talk about how fast it can shoot from 0 to 60 mph. The 600-hp Dual Motor version is said to make the leap in just 3.9 seconds, hitting a top speed of 112 mph. Though we’ve yet to put this particular model through its paces, we did get our hands on the 834-hp tri-motor Beast, and it did not disappoint, zipping to 60 mph in a blistering 2.6 seconds. This not only crowns it as the fastest truck we’ve ever tested but also lands it in the fourth spot among the quickest EVs we’ve tested, completing the quarter-mile sprint in 11.0 seconds at 119 mph. Impressively, these figures align perfectly with Tesla’s own performance claims.

Tesla CybertruckRange 2024: Charging, and Battery Life

When it comes to pulling power, both the dual- and tri-motor Cybertrucks boast a max towing capacity of 11,000 pounds. The single-motor version, set to join the lineup later, will have a slightly more modest limit of 7,500 pounds. Yet, every version of the Cybertruck promises to carry a payload of up to 2,500 pounds in its durable six-by-four-foot composite cargo bed.

Diving into range, charging, and battery life, the Cybertruck Beast houses a hefty 123.0-kWh battery, which we believe the Dual Motor model shares. Tesla’s numbers suggest that the Dual Motor can gain 136 miles of range in a mere 15 minutes when connected to a Supercharger, with the tri-motor version expected to add 128 miles in the same amount of time. In our tests, juicing up the Beast’s battery from 10% to 50% took about 50 minutes. The driving range varies by model; Tesla estimates that the Dual Motor can cover 340 miles on a single charge, while the Beast is expected to reach 301 miles. However, with an optional range-extender battery pack that fits neatly in the cargo bed, these distances can stretch to over 440 and 470 miles, respectively. We took a Beast model without the range extender on our 75-mph highway test route and it delivered a 250-mile performance. As for the upcoming RWD Cybertruck, it’s estimated to offer 250 miles of range, making the Cybertruck lineup a compelling choice for both speed enthusiasts and long-haul drivers alike.

Fuel Economy? More Like Electric Economy!

So, the Cybertruck is this beefy, do-it-all electric beast that the EPA labels as a heavy-duty pickup. That means Tesla doesn’t have to spill the beans on how efficient it is to the feds. But hey, we did our own thing and took the Cybertruck, the Beast edition, for a spin at 75 mph to see how far it’d go on a full charge. Tesla was like, “It’ll hit 301 miles easy,” but our adventure stopped at 250 miles. Not quite the full stretch, but hey, it’s in the ballpark of what other electric trucks are doing.

If you thought the Model 3 was playing it cool with its minimalist vibe, wait till you see inside the Cybertruck. It’s like stepping into the future, but with more elbow room, especially in the back. Despite that sleek, sloping roof, there’s plenty of headspace, unless you’re really tall—then you might want to call dibs on shotgun. We played luggage Tetris and fit one suitcase in the front trunk (yeah, it’s called a frunk) and crammed 22 in the back with seats folded. The cargo bed? Massive. 121 cubic feet massive, with a secret spot under the floor for another suitcase because why not?

Tech That Talks to You (But Not Literally)

Each Cybertruck comes with a huge 18.5-inch touchscreen smack in the middle of the dash, and there’s another screen, 9.4 inches this time, for the folks riding in the back. You get SiriusXM and a Wi-Fi hotspot, but if you’re itching for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, well, you might have to itch a bit longer—Tesla’s not on that bandwagon yet. But, Tesla’s whispering about some cool updates that’ll come flying through the air to your Cybertruck soon. Think locking differentials, fancy air suspension tweaks, and more. So, it’s like your truck gets smarter while you sleep. How cool is that?
