Two-Door Audi A5, S5, and RS5 Models Discontinued for 2025: What’s Next?
Audi has announced that the two-door versions of the A5, S5, and RS5 will not be returning for the 2025 model year. Both the coupe and Cabriolet models will be discontinued, leaving the four-door Sportback as the surviving body style into 2025.
The A5 coupe made its debut in 2008, featuring a sleek and sophisticated design. Initially, the coupe was powered by a 3.2-liter V-6 engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The sportier S5 variant boasted a 4.2-liter V-8 engine with a six-speed manual option. The Cabriolet version followed in 2010, introducing a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a supercharged V-6 for the S5 model, coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The S5 coupe later transitioned to a six-cylinder engine in its 2013 refresh.
Although a four-door Sportback model was available internationally during the first generation, it only became accessible to American consumers with the launch of the second-generation A5 in 2018. This iteration featured a sharper design and introduced a turbocharged four-cylinder engine for the A5 and a turbocharged V-6 for the S5. While the A5 initially offered a manual transmission, the S5 was equipped exclusively with an eight-speed automatic.
The RS5, often considered the pinnacle of the range, debuted in the U.S. in 2013. It was initially powered by a 444-hp 4.2-liter V-8 engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. In its second generation, the RS5 transitioned to a twin-turbo V-6 engine, maintaining the same 444 horsepower but shifting to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Despite the discontinuation of the two-door variants, the four-door A5 Sportback, S5 Sportback, and RS5 Sportback will continue into the 2025 model year with several updates. Audi has enhanced certain packages, including the addition of rear USB ports in the Convenience package. All A5 models will now feature black exterior trim, and a new S line Plus package with additional darkened trim will be available on Premium Plus and Prestige models.
As Audi refines its lineup, the focus remains on providing sophisticated and innovative vehicles that meet the evolving needs of its customers.
