If you’re captivated by the Velar’s well-tailored looks and luxurious features, the P400 Dynamic SE trim is the sweet spot. It offers the best value for those looking to experience the potent turbocharged-and-supercharged inline-six engine. This model comes standard with all-wheel drive and adaptive dampers, ensuring a smooth and controlled ride.

Key features of the P400 Dynamic SE include:

  • Power steering column adjuster
  • Front and rear sunroofs
  • Meridian sound system

For added versatility and comfort, consider adding the Dynamic Handling package. This includes air springs for an adjustable ride height, a drive-mode selector, and All Terrain Progress Control, which acts like adaptive cruise control for low speeds or slippery conditions.

2025 Range Rover Velar Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Base Engine: P250 The entry-level P250 engine is a 247-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. While this setup is smooth and refined, it struggles to move the Velar鈥檚 substantial heft with authority. Acceleration is modest, and the handling, though competent, lacks a sporty edge.

Upgraded Engine: P400 For those seeking more power, the P400 model is the way to go. It features a 395-hp turbocharged-and-supercharged 3.0-liter inline-six, bolstered by a 48-volt hybrid system. This combination brings much-needed energy to the Velar鈥檚 performance, though its overall character remains more luxurious than sporty.

Driving Dynamics

  • Suspension: The suspension setup is adept at controlling body motions and minimizing body roll, providing a firm yet well-managed ride.
  • Steering and Brakes: The steering is precise but lacks feedback, and the brake pedal feel is somewhat mushy.
  • Air Suspension: Models equipped with air suspension can raise and lower their ride height, enhancing both on-road dynamics and off-road capability. The Velar鈥檚 towing capacity is impressive, capable of pulling about 5,000 pounds, enough for a small camper or boat.

Performance Metrics

In a long-term test, a four-cylinder Velar took 7.4 seconds to reach 60 mph. While the P400 powertrain promises better acceleration, it has yet to be tested. However, estimates suggest that the P400 model should hit 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, which is competitive but still behind some six-cylinder rivals like the BMW X3 M40i and the Porsche Macan S.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA has rated the Velar’s inline-six engine at 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, while the turbocharged four-cylinder is slightly more efficient, with ratings of 22 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. In our real-world 75-mph highway fuel-economy test, the four-cylinder Velar delivered 26 mpg.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

If you appreciate modern architecture, you’ll likely enjoy the Velar’s interior design. The cabin is characterized by simple, clean lines and bold.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Let鈥檚 talk about fuel economy. The EPA gives the Velar’s inline-six engine a respectable rating of 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The turbocharged four-cylinder is slightly more frugal, with ratings of 22 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. When we took the four-cylinder Velar out for a spin on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test, it delivered a solid 26 mpg.

Now, let鈥檚 step inside the Velar. If you’re a fan of modern, minimalist design, you’re going to love the interior. The cabin is all about clean lines and bold, rectangular shapes. Land Rover has really outdone themselves in making the interior as clutter-free as possible. Most controls are handled through the infotainment touchscreen, which frees up the center console to look more like a stylish coffee table dividing the cabin.

And when it comes to cargo space, the Velar doesn鈥檛 disappoint. Its softly rounded exterior and well-designed rear overhang mean you can fit more carry-on suitcases than most of its competitors. With the rear seats up, you can fit 10 carry-ons. Fold those seats down, and you鈥檝e got room for 23 carry-ons! That鈥檚 plenty of space for your next road trip or a serious shopping spree.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Let鈥檚 dive into the tech side of things. The Velar is equipped with a slick 11.4-inch touchscreen display that seems to float in front of the dashboard. This screen runs Land Rover’s latest Pivi Pro infotainment interface, which is a significant upgrade from the older InControl Touch Pro system. Pivi Pro is easier to use and more responsive, though it does have its quirks.

  • Meridian stereo system
  • In-dash navigation

  • Available adaptive cruise control with steering assist

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Land Rover鈥檚 warranty package for the Velar is pretty much what you鈥檇 expect in this class, though not exceptional. You get a four-year, 50,000-mile limited warranty, which is on par with competitors. However, if you’re looking for a bit more, Jaguar鈥檚 F-Pace (which is mechanically similar to the Velar) offers a better warranty and a five-year, 60,000-mile complimentary scheduled maintenance plan鈥攕omething Land Rover only provides as a dealer add-on.

Here鈥檚 a quick breakdown:

  • Limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
  • No complimentary scheduled maintenance
