After 25 years of fading popularity, this genre of small or compact pickups, known for being lowered and customized for performance and style, is hitting the streets again. What Is a Ford Maverick Lobo?
If the name Lobo rings a bell, you might be familiar with its use in Mexico, where it refers to the F-150. Ford’s recent trademarking of “F-150 Lobo” and “Maverick Lobo” in the U.S. hinted at this exciting release. The Maverick Lobo sits as the lowest-riding model in the Maverick family, with a 0.5-inch drop in the front and a 1.1-inch drop at the rear.
Inspired by SEMA
The design of the Lobo draws inspiration from the Tucci Hot Rods Maverick showcased at the 2021 SEMA show. The Lobo sports a body-color rear bumper, side skirts, a black roof, and its own unique front fascia and grille. The 19-inch black monobloc-style wheels add to its striking appearance, though traditional wheels are also available.
A Cool, Yet Understated Look
While the Lobo package looks impressive, there are a couple of design missteps. The name “Lobo” doesn’t appear as a wordmark, nor is there a cool wolf’s head on the tailgate. Additionally, the fender garnish remains all black, similar to the entry-level Maverick XL, missing the contrasting trim seen on other high-spec models.

The interior is just as bold, featuring Grabber Blue and Electric Lime contrast stitching on black upholstery. The seats are embossed with a pattern that draws inspiration from graffiti, though it might remind some of the wall lighting on the Death Star.

Ford assures us that plenty of accessories will be available for the Maverick Lobo. While there’s no confirmation on official Ford Performance parts for the Lobo, the aftermarket scene is expected to offer a wealth of options.
