The Ford Capri is making a comeback! However, it’s not the Capri you might remember from the past.
A New Era for the Ford Capri
Once a two-door coupe popular from the late 1960s to the mid-1980s, the Ford Capri returns in 2024 as a mid-sized electric crossover built on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform. The new Capri is available in two versions: the base model with rear-wheel drive (RWD) featuring a single electric motor generating 282 horsepower, and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) version producing 335 horsepower.
For those who recall the original Ford Capri of the 1970s and 1980s, the transformation into an electric crossover might seem unexpected. The Ford Capri 2024 shares its platform with the Europe-market Explorer EV and can be seen as Ford’s equivalent to the Volkswagen ID.4 crossover, while the Capri itself aligns with the ID.5.
New Ford Capri 2024 Design and Styling
From a styling perspective, the new Capri 2024 presents a mixed bag. It may not be particularly striking, but it isn’t unappealing either. The side profile, with its flat roof and angular hips, bears a strong resemblance to the Polestar 2 sedan.
