But how does such a beast handle on the pavement? Surprisingly well. We got behind the wheel of a Founders Edition Beast model and were amazed by its nimbleness. Thanks to rear-wheel steering and a variable ratio steer-by-wire system, navigating through city streets and tight spots felt more like cruising in a sedan than piloting a bulky pickup. The Cybertruck is proving to be as versatile as it is visionary, reshaping what we expect from an electric vehicle.

0鈥60-MPH Times

The 600-hp Dual Motor Cybertruck will reportedly reach 60 mph in just 3.9 ticks and have a top speed of 112 mph. While we haven’t had a chance to test that version, we have tested the 834-hp tri-motor Beast, which hit 60 mph in 2.6 seconds. That makes it the quickest truck鈥攁nd the fourth-quickest EV鈥攚e’ve ever tested. It completed the quarter-mile in 11.0 seconds at 119 mph. Surprisingly, both of those test results are identical to Tesla’s claims.Towing and Payload Capacity The dual- and tri-motor Cybertrucks have a maximum towing capacity of 11,000 pounds; the forthcoming single-motor model is capped at 7500 pounds. Every Cybertruck can also haul 2500 pounds in its six-by-four-foot composite cargo bed. Range, Charging, and Battery Life The Tesla Cybertruck Beast has a 123.0-kWh battery, which we suspect is shared with the Dual Motor model. Tesla claims the latter can add 136 miles in 15 minutes when hooked up to a Supercharger, while the tri-motor model is said to add 128 miles in the same timeframe. In our testing, it took 50 minutes to charge the Beast’s battery from 10 to 50 percent. The electric truck’s driving range varies with the number of motors, but Tesla estimates Dual Motor versions can travel 340 miles per charge and that the Cybertruck Beast will go 301 miles. Those claims rise to over 440 and 470 miles, respectively, with an optional range-extender battery pack that fits inside the truck’s cargo bed. When the RWD Cybertruck arrives, it’ll have an estimated 250 miles of range. We tested a Beast model without the range extender battery on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route and it managed a 250-mile result.

Impressively, these figures align perfectly with Tesla’s own performance claims.

When it comes to pulling power, both the dual- and tri-motor Cybertrucks boast a max towing capacity of 11,000 pounds. The single-motor version, set to join the lineup later, will have a slightly more modest limit of 7,500 pounds. Yet, every version of the Cybertruck promises to carry a payload of up to 2,500 pounds in its durable six-by-four-foot composite cargo bed.

Diving into range, charging, and battery life, the Cybertruck Beast houses a hefty 123.0-kWh battery, which we believe the Dual Motor model shares. Tesla’s numbers suggest that the Dual Motor can gain 136 miles of range in a mere 15 minutes when connected to a Supercharger, with the tri-motor version expected to add 128 miles in the same amount of time. In our tests, juicing up the Beast’s battery from 10% to 50% took about 50 minutes. The driving range varies by model; Tesla estimates that the Dual Motor can cover 340 miles on a single charge, while the Beast is expected to reach 301 miles. However, with an optional range-extender battery pack that fits neatly in the cargo bed, these distances can stretch to over 440 and 470 miles, respectively. We took a Beast model without the range extender on our 75-mph highway test route and it delivered a 250-mile performance. As for the upcoming RWD Cybertruck, it’s estimated to offer 250 miles of range, making the Cybertruck lineup a compelling choice for both speed enthusiasts and long-haul drivers alike.

Fuel Economy? More Like Electric Economy!

So, the Cybertruck is this beefy, do-it-all electric beast that the EPA labels as a heavy-duty pickup. That means Tesla doesn鈥檛 have to spill the beans on how efficient it is to the feds. But hey, we did our own thing and took the Cybertruck, the Beast edition, for a spin at 75 mph to see how far it’d go on a full charge. Tesla was like, “It’ll hit 301 miles easy,” but our adventure stopped at 250 miles. Not quite the full stretch, but hey, it’s in the ballpark of what other electric trucks are doing.

Each Cybertruck comes with a huge 18.5-inch touchscreen smack in the middle of the dash, and there鈥檚 another screen, 9.4 inches this time, for the folks riding in the back.
